Don’t you need a break every once in a while? A timeout or whatever you want to call it? Some time to recharge your batteries and calm down. Don’t you just crave silence every once in a while? Just the ocean and its raging heartbeat, the sun with its burning intensity. A week or two with nothing on your to do list except waking up early to walk along the shoreline or sleeping in until the sun has reached its zenith. To take a minute, an hour or even the whole day to let your eyes wander along the sea that is spread out in front of you, to finally indulge in a book again. Don’t you need a week without Wi-Fi or any connection to the world you left behind? Well, I do.

I spent a week on the island of Tenerife, in a beautiful and quiet hotel right in front of the beach with enormous cliffs, natural pools to swim in and small black sandy beaches. I got up early every morning and sat on our balcony reading a bit whilst taking in the sunrise and listening to the crashing waves. There was not much to do in the area because it located next to a small fishing village but we made it work anyway by reading and tanning a lot and having lunch (baguette, cheese and wine) on the cliffs. It was so nice to feel the suns heated kiss upon my skin, to listen to the whispering wind instead of noisy cars. And now I sit here longing for the comforting heat, for the calming and powerful sound of the sea, the freedom of wind blowing through your hair, the revealing breath of wet and briny air, the smell of a city during hot summer nights.
