Only Sound That Howls
Only sound that howls
She heard not a single word
Not now, not ever
And as she sat there, in her quiet heaven
She looked around the room, only to see
The laughter of the children as they chased each other,
The little chitter from the gather of women that sat at the kitchen table,
The loud roars of the men who celebrated the joy of their cricket victory
For the first time in forever, a tear rolled down her cheek
Not because she was sat there alone, but because she for the first time wished she could hear
She wished to hear the chirping of birds,
The swish of the waves,
The gently falling autumn leaves,
The vinyl that played….
And as she got up from her no longer heaven
She paced through to get away from the place that brought her nothing more than pain
And as he rushed..
She brushed past the Christmas tree, dropping the ornament
For the first time in forever,
She hear a ting
The tinkle, the jingle
She fell to the ground, sobbing in confusion but also in relief
A sigh left her mouth and a smile peaked
She looked around once more not to hear, but to see
This bell was the only thing she ever heard and she could not believe
