Intersectional Feminism
Although the free the nipple campaign and the wage issue are very relevant topics and should be talked about, they are not the only topics that should be discussed.
“White feminism” does not imply that all white people who identify as feminist are in fact “white feminists.” White feminism is when someone calls themselves a feminist but only discusses the issues that white, straight, cis women deal with, completely ignoring women of color, queer women, transgender women, disabled women and more.
White women who identify as straight and cisgender are not oppressed in the same way that all other women are. We do not experience racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, etc. and because of that, a lot of us are ignoring all these terrible oppressions. That needs to stop.
We can not just float around on social media and disregard important information just because it “isn’t relevant to our lives.” It is completely relevant to our lives! These events are taking place right now and we can not just stand for one issue and one issue only when there are so many others out there in need of being discussed and shared. If you are going to call yourself a feminist then you have to acknowledge everybody. Free your nipple, that is 100% fine with me! However, while doing that you also need to be educating yourself on everyone else’s needs. We need to stand up and spread the message. Let our voices be heard by continuing to share information with others about intersectional feminism. Feminism where everyone is considered. Feminism where women of color, queer women, transgender women, disabled women, cisgender women and more all benefit.
The only way to make a change is to talk about the change. Once you have shared the movement, discussed the movement and altered the mindset of those who may have been ignorant before, that is when progress is made.
